Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

The Iowa Department of Education has included Conditions for Learning as part of the plan under the new federal education law, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

All Iowa public school districts will ask students in grades 5-12 to fill out the statewide online Conditions for Learning Survey this spring.  The survey is confidential. Questions focus on issues including student safety and positive student relationships, as well as school rules and how they are enforced. A high student participation rate in the survey is important to obtain the most complete school climate information for each of our schools. Each school will receive information from this survey every fall to help support student needs in our schools.

This survey is an opportunity for students to have their voices heard and be part of the effort to keep improving conditions for learning at their school.  Students themselves can choose not to participate. They can leave any question blank if they do not wish to answer it.

For additional details please read this brief Information Summary for Student Survey which includes a copy of the Written Refusal Form that enables parents or guardians to opt their child(ren) out of this voluntary survey. Please feel free to call your child’s school with any questions.
