Yearbook Awards
January 26, 2022 - The yearbook staff has done it again! They took home FIRST PLACE in the American Scholastic Press Association's nationwide whole book contest. Another proud accomplishment was winning an additional award for "Best sports coverage". This is the first award for sports coverage West's yearbook has ever received. Way to go yearbook staff!
December 2021 - Our 2021 yearbook earned a Neubert Award. This is the Iowa High School Press Association’s highest rating category. It is named in honor of Mick Neubert, outstanding journalism adviser from Grinnell High School. These yearbooks are deemed exceptional in executing solid journalistic, photographic, and design principles in yearbook publishing. We are one of only two books in the state that earned this rating. We were scored by an out-of-state adviser. This is a top honor, and I am so proud to advise these students. They hustle every single day to produce work that hundreds of people see and judge. October 2021 - The yearbook staff walked away from the Iowa High School Press Association’s state conference with 11 awards for design, writing, and photography. These awards were presented for the 2021 yearbook. The students who attended the conference got to listen to multiple different presentations and meet numerous other high school publications staff members. So not only did they compete against schools from around the state and receive positive feedback for their hard work, but they learned many new tips and tricks to bring back to the staff. Congratulations to the Shaheen yearbook staff!
February 2021 - The yearbook staff received a Gallery of Excellence Award from Walsworth publishing company. This is a top honor. It means our book is top in the nation and will be provided to schools all over the country as an example of excellent journalism. This yearbook was completed during quarantine last year. We are very proud!
