West High School Awards and Honors

1/10/23 From Mrs. Choate: The West High publications groups have BOTH taken home 1st place in the American Scholastic Press Association national contest.  The Shaheen 2022 yearbook won first place for their book titled Seeing Double. And the newspaper team received first place based on two of their 2022 print issues.  This is a huge honor, congratulate them if you see them!

10/31/22:  iJAG Leadership Development Conference -Coralville Iowa October 31st 2022- Shark Tank competition:  The Davenport West iJAG program took 12 students 6 from both Mr. Robinson's classes to Coralville, Iowa for the Annual iJAG Career Association Development Conference. The Conference is primarily for each programs Career Association's  officers to meet with other iJAG students and specialist from across the state and learn the specifics of their individual roles in their programs. Both Groups of Student performed exceptionally well. Mr. Nunn's 11th/12th grade advanced out of a group of 8 schools the win their primary round and advance to the final with 30 plus other programs across the state!!! Mr. Nunn's group finished off their day with an exceptional presentation in the final and came just short of a top 3 finish finishing 4th out of 30 plus programs!!!! Both groups received great reviews and compliments about their preparation for the conference and competition. 

10/21/22: Congratulations go out to the West High Yearbook staff!  They took home a whopping 19 awards at the Iowa High School Press Association conference on October 20th for their 2022 yearbook.

11/8/21:  Congratulations to Jeb Collins, WHS Class of 2020 for his accomplishments at Hawkeye Community College.  Click here for more information.

11/8/21:  Congratulations to the Diamond Dancers for representing West High at the QC Legacy Competition this past weekend. The team competed at Central High School placed 3rd in Lyrical and 2nd in Kick, and 2nd in pom. Soloist placements were as follows:

12th place - Elise Nelson

6th place - Alexandria Petersen

5th place - Madelynn Barnes

2nd place - Isabella Martens

2nd place - Alyssa Broer

1st place & All-Solo Grand Champion - Addison Aleksiejczyk

 11/1/21: *Congratulations to the Diamond Dancers for representing West High at the Iowa Spirit Spectacular this past weekend. The team competed at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City and placed 5th in Pom and 2nd in Lyrical, and 1st in Kick. Also, junior Isabella Martens placed 10th for her solo, and freshman Addison Aleksiejczyk placed 1st!  Way to go dancers!

 

We are proud and blessed to announce that the Davenport West High Band has been nominated and invited to represent the State of Iowa at the 100th (Centennial) Anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC April 20-24, 2022! This is a huge honor and we will have 2 performances at the Lincoln Memorial.  Each State is represented by ONE band. 

We need your help in order to send 100 of our students on this once in a lifetime trip fully funded. We want to be equitable and we want ALL students to be able to have this opportunity. If you or anyone you know is willing to sponsor us or donate, we are looking to raise $140,000!!!
