Pickup & Drop Off of Students at Wilson Elementary School

PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION VERY CAREFULLY AS IT EXPLAINS OUR NEW DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES AT WILSON.

All student drop-off and pick –up will take place on the playground. All bus drop-off and pick-up will take place on the parking lot in the front of the school. Students that are walking to and from school will exit from the front of the building. When they arrive they can join their classmates on the playground in the back of the school. Please follow the traffic signs. You can no longer park in front of the school it is a “No Stopping, Standing or Parking” street.

BUS RIDERS & WALKERS: These students may enter and exit in the front of the building. Bus riders will exit from the main door and walkers will exit from the north east and southeast doors.

Morning drop-off procedure
Families will enter the North driveway and pull into the lane 2 or 4 as directed by staff. Please pull as far forward as possible and drop- off as quickly as possible. Please have students prepared to exit the vehicle when you pull up to the school as this will help us make the morning drop-off as efficient and safe as possible.

Afternoon pick-up procedure
In the afternoon, there will be 4 lanes designated for pick-up. We want you to pull forward as far as you can and remain in your vehicle. You will then display the family name card on the driver’s dash that we have provided for you. Staff members will be reading those name cards to call your child to the pick-up area. When the dismissal bell rings, all students getting picked up by a parent/guardian will report to the playground and wait quietly on the first letter of their last name. The students will listen for the signal from a staff member to “go, go, go” as they make their way to the first wave of parked vehicles. A staff member will call those students who have not seen their vehicle. Once all of those students are safely boarded, a staff member will direct the row to exit. We will use the same boarding procedure to fill and depart all lanes. This new procedure is safe and efficient. Please do not walk up to the playground to pick up your students…this distracts the adults that are focusing on the pick-up procedures.

PLEASE DO NOT PICK YOUR CHILD UP ON CLARK STREET. We have many parents that are picking up students in the front of the building…this is a serious safety concern for our walkers. It also sends the wrong message to our students as we are teaching and reteaching how to follow procedures. Please support us by following the same expectations. We are aware this process takes a little bit longer than in the past but as parents I know you would agree the safety issues outweigh the time.

If for any reason you need to go to the office after school we ask that you wait until the playground has been cleared or come to the parking lot in front to park your vehicle. When picking-up and dropping-off we ask that you stay in your vehicle as this will allow us to implement this new procedure with accuracy, efficiency, and the highest level of safety. Please be aware that the Davenport Police Department will be patrolling, and cars parked in no parking areas will be fined anywhere from $20 to $200.
