Battle of the Books, a voluntary reading contest, has begun at Walcott School! Battle of the Books is open to students in grades 4-8. Students in grades 4-6 read from the 2015 Iowa Children’s Choice Award list and students in grades 7-8 read from the 2015 Iowa Teen Award list. Our Walcott School Library Book Fair will be here Monday, Feb. 2 through Friday, Feb. 6. It will be open before school and during scheduled library classes during the day. On November 13th, five students from the Walcott sixth grade band participated in the Davenport Community School District Sixth Grade Honor Band. These five students were part of a band of over sixty 6th graders from schools throughout the district. Congratulations to Turner S. who was selected to represent Walcott and the Davenport Comm. School District at the Iowa Juniors Honors Orchestra on Friday, Nov. 21st. Turner was selected from top middle school orchestra students from the state of Iowa to rehearse and perform in Ames that day with some of the most elite musicians in the state. October as National Bullying Prevention Month and participated in a variety of activities that highlighted the theme of: The End of Bullying Begins with Me! Students spent various days watching bullying videos and having discussions in classes about how to unify together to stop bullying.
