School Library Mission:
The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas, information and technology.
At Truman all students from preschool through third grade come to the library at least once a week for a scheduled library program that enriches some area of the curriculum for that grade level. The librarian follows closely along with the topics and skills taught in the Treasures reading program. Students in grades 4 and 5 visit the library in small groups during literacy time and choose books that match their Lexile level.
Special projects are done in the computer lab with each grade level using such software as Microsoft Powerpoint, Tux Painting, and Microsoft Publisher. Students are also in the computer lab working with sites that are matched to their math and reading activities each week.
Destiny Library Catalog
The Destiny Library system improves access to library and curriculum materials (which has been proven to be one of the factors that raises test scores and student learning), provides students access from any computer at school, home or other location having an internet connection, and also makes it easier for students to find materials at their reading level via the Lexile score feature.
