Eric Johnson Named New Principal of North High School

The Davenport Community School District is pleased to announce that Eric Johnson has been named the new principal of North High School. Mr. Johnson will replace Jay Chelf who will retire at the end of the school year after serving as North High School’s principal.

Mr. Johnson has over 18 years of experience as a classroom teacher, coach, and administrator, all with the Davenport Community School District. He has served as the Principal of Williams Middle School since 2021, where he cultivated a culture that led to the successful retention and recruitment of Williams staff as well as a consistent increase in student academic achievement over the past three years. Additionally, Mr. Johnson was instrumental in the successful implementation of grade-level teaming at Williams, helping to foster a more cohesive and supportive learning environment for students.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as North High School’s principal and to be joining the Wildcat family,” said Mr. Johnson. “I am proud of the work we’ve done at Williams, and I look forward to continuing to build on that success at North. The families that currently attend North, along with the support from the feeder schools, create a close-knit learning environment and I am excited to be a part of that community.”

Mr. Johnson will begin his new role in the 2025-2026 school year, pending board approval.

“We are extremely proud to announce Mr. Johnson as the Principal of North High School,” said Superintendent TJ Schneckloth. “Mr. Johnson has a proven track record of growing excellence in all buildings in which he has served, and I am excited to see the impact he will make at North.”

Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Western Illinois University.
