Talented and Gifted Program

The Talented & Gifted Program serves students who demonstrate outstanding abilities or potential in the areas of general intellectual ability or specific ability aptitude.  Students who demonstrate outstanding potential when compared with others of their age require differentiated instruction.  Differentiated programming will enable these students to maximize their life-long learning potential and contribute to the betterment of their community.  Community-wide advocacy of differentiated programming for these students is essential. These are the beliefs that have guided the design of the Davenport Community Schools Talented & Gifted (TAG) Program for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Focus Areas

TAG learning experiences focus on the NAGC-National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) standards including,

  • Creativity – developing innovative thinking, ideas, and solutions
  • Critical Thinking – analyzing, questioning, problem-solving, and applying ideas in new ways
  • Social-Emotional Development – developing self-awareness, confidence, collaboration, and skills to support the unique needs of advanced learners
  • These focus areas are integrated throughout TAG GVC (guaranteed and viable curriculum) lessons and activities to support the whole student and help students develop their strengths and learning potential.

Please review the DCSD Talented and Gifted Parent Education Handbook for additional information on program goals, identification procedures, acceleration process, and assessments.

TAG Mission Statement: The mission of the Davenport Community School District Talented & Gifted Program is to maximize the potential of all identified students each and every day based on intellectual readiness and affective needs.

TAG Vision Statement: The DCSD Talented and Gifted Program will foster a growth mindset in all learners to think critically and take action.
