Employment, Personnel, and Advisory Committees
This section of Equity Review Process addresses equity issues related to the employment side of Title IX and the Civil Rights Act as well as the state’s requirement that an Affirmative Action (AA/EEO) Plan be developed. The reason behind the AA/EEO plan is to focus on under-representative groups so that students have role models that assist in breaking down stereotypes.
The process requirements include:
- Employment Policies and Practices – Employment and personnel policies, practices, and materials are to be free of stereotyping and bias on the basis of sex, race, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identification, and age. Notification of the district’s policy on non-discrimination is to be given to all potential employees. Board Policy 401.01
- Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Plan – As of July 1, 1990, districts must have a Board adopted Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Plan. Board Policy 401.02
- Advisory Councils/Committees – Advisory committees established by the district should represent as broad a spectrum of the community as possible. Research shows that active, effective advisory committees have well-planned agendas and minutes of past meetings on file. The following advisory councils/committees are required of districts:
- Local School Improvement Advisory Committee (LSIAC)
- Career and Technical Council and Advisory Committee (may be a subcommittee of LSIAC)
- Equity Committee (may be a subcommittee of LSIAC)
