Davenport Community School District Climate and Discipline

This section of Equity Review Process addresses equity issues related to climate in the school and the degree that it reflects recognition, respect, and celebration of the schools’ diversity and the diversity of the world around it. Part of this section examines the expectations for behavior and specifically students’ responses to diversity. Students will achieve at higher levels if they perceive their learning environment to be safe, inclusive, and welcoming.

The process requirements include:

  • Discipline and Rules – The law requires that rules be equitable for all students and are applied consistently to all groups. Board Policy 504.01
  • Harassment, Bullying, and Hazing – Due to hate and bias related laws and crimes in Iowa, it is important that discipline policies in student and staff publications make it clear that harassment of students because of age (actual or perceived), color, creed, national origin, race, religion, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical attributes, physical or mental ability, ancestry, political party preference, political belief, socioeconomic status, or familial status will not be tolerated.
