Brenna
Guard and Jackie Howard did a wonderful job representing JB at
the State National History Day Competition in Des Moines on
Monday, April 30. There were 366 total projects in the
competition and less than 10 per cent were selected to go on to
the National Competition in College Park Maryland in June.
There were 8 finalists out of 40
individual board exhibits and Jackie Howard’s board on The Polio
Panic was one of the finalists.
Brenna Guard’s category, historical paper, had 23 entries. Six
were selected as finalists, and Brenna was one of the
finalists. Brenna also received an award from the
African-American Historical Museum & Cultural Center of Iowa:
The book Outside In, a $50.00 book. She also received a
$20.00 gift certificate to be used in the museum's gift shop
located in Cedar Rapids.
