No blizzard conditions this year.  Thank the Lord.  We (ten team members, three mentors, and one alternate) had  a great day in Ames at the First LEGO League’s Ocean Odyssey Competition. The kids were great!  They learned a lot, I’m sure.  I’m ready for next year’s competition even though I’m still really tired from Saturday.  The kids going on the trip with us were Travis Hattery, Eli Mayfield, Samantha Adrales, Sierra DeMarr, Tyler Hurst, Tyler Ahmed, Justin Henry, Jacob Stewart, Natalie Baugher, Devon Witt, and Torrance Windham.  The “us” were Dave Heinrichs and Jan Hill and our engineering mentor from St. Ambrose, Tom Hill.

They went through the challenges with their robot three times, had interviews on how their “team” worked together, answered questions about how they built and tested their robot, and performed a “skit” based on research they had done about a problem in oceanography.  Their topic was red tide and Natalie Baugher wrote the script for the team.
