Storm Song

by Lisa
A bright flash of lightning
streaked through the
dark, gloomy sky
you could hear
the loud crash
of thunder
the street vibrated
as if a stampede
of elephants were loose
on the streets
the rain started
to pour down
the dandelions
turned their faces up to the sky
to get a drink
of nature's fresh water
millions of little drops
fall from the sky
feeding all the plant life
another streak of lightning
lit up the sky
it was followed by the sound
of a slamming door
I could hear the pitter-patter
of the rain as it fell to the ground
the bright yellow sun peeked
out from behind the dark gray clouds
warming the earth
and drying the rain-soaked plants
and flowers
slowly, the rain came to an end
I turned my face up toward the sky
I smelled the fresh tang
of spring on my skin.
