Mrs. Kendell - 6th Grade Orchestra Director

Mrs. Kris Kendell is from Burlington , Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Music Education and her Master’s degree from Drake University. She is married and has two teenage kids.

In addition to teaching school, Mrs. Kendell enjoys performing in a variety of musical groups. Mrs. Kendell is a violinist in the Quad City Symphony Orchestra (www.qcsymphony.com) and the String Arts Trio. Also in the String Arts Trio is Wood reading teacher, Mrs. Gail Blubaugh, and Mr. Scott Sund, Wood parent and private cello instructor. (www.stringartstrio.com)

Mrs. Kendell plays her 5 string electric violin with the local rock band, Identity Crisis. Also in this group is Wood Band Director, Ms. Kathy McMillen on saxophone and flute, Mr. Terry Reiter (Sudlow Band Director married to Wood Band Director Mrs. Nora Reiter) on drums, and Mr. Jim McCartney (North Band Director) on trumpet. Mrs. Kendell enjoys quilting, knitting, walking, and trying new recipes from The Food Network. Her favorite chefs are Bobby Flay and Tyler Florence!

 

Mr. Henry - Orchestra Director
at North and Wood

Mr. Henry grew up in Cedar Rapids , Iowa and graduated from Washington High School there in 1976.  He received his degree in music education from Wartburg   College in 1980 and his Master’s degree in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1981.  He later received an MBA from the University of Iowa in 2002.  Mr. Henry has taught orchestra in Texas and Iowa for most of the past twenty years, but has also spent two years teaching English in China .  Mr. Henry was the Iowa string teacher of the year in 2001 and was also selected as an outstanding teacher by the University of California San Diego in 2000 and selected to the Who's Who of American Teachers in 2001.  Mr. Henry is a member of the Cedar Rapids Symphony, the Dubuque Symphony, and is presently the acting concertmaster for the Clinton Symphony.  Mr. Henry’s wife, Jennifer, is a pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton. 

Mr. Henry enjoys traveling, sports, reading, playing bridge, and is working on publishing his first novel.
