Mrs. Gehret- Science

My name is Erin Hayek and I am the 8th grade science teacher on the Nebula’s team.  This will be my fourth year teaching at Wood Intermediate School but my first year teaching out of our brand new textbooks.  The sciences that the students will be studying this year are physical science, physics, and chemistry.  I am really looking forward to the new resources that have come with our books.

I am a graduate of Central High School and the University of Northern Iowa.  I graduated college with a B.A. in Elementary Education, Middle School Education, Middle School Endorsement, and a Mathematics Minor.  I am currently taking classes at Western Illinois to expand my knowledge about the science programs and I am working for my Elementary School Masters with a Science Endorsement.

I have a 4 year old son who means everything in the world to me!  He is going to be the next All-Star in major league baseball.  I also have a German Shepard and 3 adorable kitties.  The six of us just purchased our new home one week before school began and my next project is to work out my wedding plans for July 14th, 2007.  My hobbies, when I have free-time, are camping, traveling, and watching/collecting movies.  My passion is working with 8th graders and watching their light bulb turn on in their brilliant scientific minds.

 Mr. McMahon - Global Studies

My name is Jeremiah McMahon and I teach 8th grade American History  here at Wood.  I graduated from Saint Ambrose University in 2005 with a teaching degree in History and a middle school endorsement.  I’m a Davenport native as well as a product of the Davenport Community School District.  I have always wanted to be a teacher and knew when I started college that I wanted to work with students in middle school because this is where my teachers had the greatest impact on me.  When I’m not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my 3 year old daughter, and newborn son.  I also enjoy reading historical non-fiction and watching movies, especially sci-fi.  I’m looking forward to another great year at Wood; if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call or email.
