Music Courses at Williams Intermediate

Welcome to the world of band, choir, and orchestra!  This is an introduction to the Williams Intermediate Music Department.  Whether your student has had years of experience playing an instrument, singing, or just now wants to start learning about music, Williams has a class that will help your students grow as a musician.  The music program at Williams Intermediate has a long tradition of success and building successful musicians.  We have four different bands, five choirs, and two orchestras at Williams.

Participating in music is much more than just picking up an instrument and playing along on your favorite tunes.  Music reaches across all areas of the curriculum, including math (counting and subdividing rhythms), foreign language (many terms are written in Italian, German, or French, as well as English), history (music reflects the environment and times of its creation), and even physical education (coordination of fingers, hands, arms, etc).  Not only that, but music creates a family atmosphere where students can have fun learning and make new friends as well.

The ensembles at Williams offer many performance opportunities.  This includes an annual trip to Chicago taken by our Show and Jazz Choirs, a winter concert, a Spring concert, our Annual Adventureland trip for the bands, and many more.  Students who participate in music will find that they develop skills of displaying their talents in front of large audiences that will carry over into many other fields.  Colleges also look very favorably on students who have the dedication and skills necessary to participate in music.

6th GRADE MUSIC ROTATION

Each 7 1/2 weeks, all 6th graders rotate to a different elective within the school.  There are two music classes offered with this rotation at different times.  Mr. Werner's class studies reading skills such as: bass clef notation, rhythm symbols and vocabulary, rhythmic counting, and score recognition.  Ms. Andersen's class learns about instrumentation and sound production, cultural history in terms of music and events, and rhythmic studies, and treble clef notation.  The aim of our music curriculum is to have student gain the knowledge necessary to grow into a musician.
