Weekly Eblast and Message from Mrs. Williams September 4, 2020

Hey Falcons,  I know you have been hit with a lot of information this week, but I feel like you can’t have too much.  Mr. Orfitelli sent out an eblast with a lot of good information in it.  Some of what I have may be repetitive and I apologize,  but I want you to have the best info possible prior to the start of the school year.  I know there will be a lot of anxiety out there but rest assured we are here to help.  There will be lots of adults directing your student to class if they are new to West.  Classrooms will have specific seating to help social distance as best they can and our cafeteria seating is 6 feet apart.  The hallways are marked with arrows to keep the flow of traffic moving in the same direction where possible.

Remember if you are in group A (household last name A-K) you start in person on Sept. 8th

Group B (household last name L-Z) you start in person on Sept. 10th but need to check into your google classrooms on the 8th from home.

Here is the link tutorial for your student to take attendance on the days they are home.

We are not assigning lockers so your student will be allowed to carry backpacks and here is info for those of you that ride the city bus.

COVID-19 Response Update:  Davenport CitiBus will be making a few COVID-19 related updates to services beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2020.  CitiBus will require all passengers to wear a mask or face covering when boarding and while riding the bus to meet increasing need and ridership as school resumes.  The measure is necessary for everyone’s safety and meets CDC guidelines when there is an inability to socially distance at least six feet apart.  Davenport CitiBus will re-open the Ground Transportation Center (GTC) bus hub in addition to the mask requirement on busses.  Busses will no longer pick up at the temporary 2nd St staging location.  Social distancing will be required inside the facility, and patrons may not stay in the facility longer than 30 minutes.  Face masks are encouraged when in the facility.  Thank you for your cooperation in helping us reduce the spread of COVID-19 by travelling only when needed and taking proper precautions, such as wearing a face covering.

Weekly Eblast and Message from Principal Williams 8-28-20

Happy Friday Falcons.  As the school year quickly approaches here are a few reminders:

Get your chromebooks ready to go.  Check to see if they are working and if you are having issues contact the school–  kizerj@davenportschools.org.  For our 100% online families and our B group families, we will have 2 times next week for chromebook check out if you do not have one or trouble shoot if you are having issues with your current one.  WEDNESDAY Sept. 2nd from 12-3 or Friday Sept. 4th from 8-11. Drive up to school and call 563-723-5600 and we will assist you.   We will not be issuing chromebooks or dealing with issues for the students in group A because we will take care of them on the first day of school.

I’m sure you are aware that masks will be a requirement, this will be for the majority of the day.  I have included the district guidelines on this.  It has been a long time since we were all together and we have never been in a situation where we have had to wear a face covering.  So practice wearing it now, and add a little more time each day so you can handle a full day.  There will be breaks here and there, but for the most part you need to prepare yourself to wear one daily.

You will be able to view your schedule later today, if you have any concerns email your school counselor.  Reagan A-E,  Jones F-K and 504, Murphy L-R, Soedt S-Z and ESL.  You may also use this online form to request a schedule change.

We will send out guidance as far as what arrival and dismissal will look like next week.  Breakfast will be served but will not start until 8:15.

We are so excited to see you all, this year will be great if not different.  We all have to do our part to keep each other safe.

This will be a crazy year to say the least so in order to have a successful year we recommend the following:

Get your chrome books ready to go. Check to see if they are working and if you are having issues contact the school. williamsco@davenportschools.org or kizerj@davenportschools.org.

I’m sure you are aware that masks will be a requirement, this will be for the majority of the day. I have included the district guidelines on this. District guidelines Document

We have our first football game next Friday the 28th against Assumption. All eyes will be on how the Falcons handle hosting the first game. The district guidelines will be as follows:

25% seating capacity at the games

Seating blocked off so we can maintain social distancing, this will be especially important in our awesome student section. We want you guys cheering and even socially distanced, it will be more important than ever to have the masks on.

Your schedule will be available soon.  The school counselors have been working hard and have been checking over the schedules.

You can anticipate your zero term schedule, as it is duplicating the 4th term from last year.  A reminder, we are scheduling 5 terms this year:  Zero Term, 1st Term, 2nd Term, 3rd Term, and 4th Term.  Each term is approximately 7 weeks long.  Regardless of your plan this year, either the 50% hybrid or 100% online, our teaching – your learning will occur every day.  Everyone starts on day one, September 8th, 2020.  Prepare now, the West High Way will be opening and welcoming you soon!

To our Freshman class, look for a welcome video to come out next week.

*Also remember for grades 10-12 your schedule will be last year’s 4th quarter. Some of you may have completed the class or we need to make a change due to staffing, but otherwise 10-12 grade will follow last year’s 4th term schedule.  We will start the year with 0 term to accomplish this so we do not lose any credits.  Incoming freshman will be given classes to allow them to earn credits, to prepare them for high school and for all students 0 term will help bridge the gap in learning due to the Covid shutdown.

    Stay safe falcons………………
