    Senior Countdown to College

    Fall

    • Visit with your school counselor! Make sure you are on track to graduate and fulfilling college admission requirements.
    • Senior 7 checklist – complete 7 out of 10 college & career readiness activities to participate in our Senior Decision Day in the spring.
    • Research colleges and decide which best suit you and your career interests.
    • October 14th, 5:30-7:00pm – Attend the COLLEGE FAIR at the Scott Community College Urban Campus in downtown Davenport!
    • Visit with college admissions counselors who come to West!
    • Write essays and ask your teachers for letters of recommendation for college admission and scholarship applications.
    • Register for the ACT and test no later than December 14th, 2019.
    • October 1st – begin your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and complete by the December 1st priority deadline — fafsa.ed.gov
    • By November 1st – Apply to the college(s) of your choice!
    • Research SCHOLARSHIPS – Seek out and apply for scholarships each month! See our scholarship listing on the West High School website.
    • Work hard all year! Explore career ideas! Take dual enrollment courses for college credit! Keep in mind, classes completed and grades earned during your senior year can affect your college acceptance and scholarship eligibility!

    Winter

    • Continue looking for scholarship opportunities and apply.
    • Watch for college acceptance letters & send in housing applications.

    Spring

    • Decide which college to attend; notify the college of your decision.
    • Also, notify schools you will not attend of your decision.
    • Keep track of important financial aid and scholarship deadlines.
    • Watch for your Student Aid Report (SAR) award letter in the mail; it should arrive four weeks after your FAFSA has been filed.
    • Keep working hard! Second semester grades can affect your college acceptance and scholarship eligibility!
