WORKPLACE SKILLS
The Iowa Association of Business and Industry put together 13 necessary skills for a student to possess in order to be successful in the world of work. The Academy students work on these skills in the classroom and also observe how they are used in the workplace when they are on their job shadows or field trips. The advisors also discuss how these skills are implemented in the workplace, producing successful employees.

· Identify and solve problems using problem-solving and decision making skills
· Understand and work with complex systems
· Apply mathematical reasoning to work-related problems
· Use technology
· Initiate and complete entire activity (exercise time and stress management)
· Act professionally—develop a positive work ethic
· Interact with others
· Learn and teach on an on-going basis (lifelong learning)
· Take responsibility for career and life choices (develop a career portfolio)
· Read and understand work-related materials
· Participate in teamwork ( utilize conflict resolution skills)
