Teachers, counselors, principals, and DuTrac employees worked together to provide students with a sense of financial responsibility. Students had to choose a career, noting the gross and net income. Booths were set up around the gym so students could deal with different expenses like food, clothing, housing, utilities, savings, tuition, and real-life setbacks like an exploding furnace. After they had met their obligations, students were sent to the checkers for verification of the check registers and monthly budget. Students circulated and interacted with the adults. Some students appeared to be in shock at how quickly their net value dipped into the negative. Ah, yes. Reality! Good lessons for all.
