    Awesome Experience: Educational Foundations

This past term, nine students took Educational Foundations, a dual-credit class through Scott Community College. Not only do students have to fulfill 80 observation hours in a classroom in which they assist the teacher and teach lessons, but they must also create a portfolio which meets the eight teaching standards, incorporating artifacts for the criteria. These students have worked hard, and I [Ms. Ray] am proud of them. Click here.

West Students Learn Science With New Lab Equipment

SCRA Pic 1      SCRA Pic 3
Last year, Mr. Yoder and Mrs. Jensen were awarded a grant from the Scott County Regional Authority (SCRA) for new lab equipment. The grant included new scales, hot plates, and data collection devices/probeware. Students in AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and Integrated Geometry/Earth and Space Science (IGESS) utilized the equipment throughout this school year to enhance their science skills during labs and projects. The science department would like to thank the SCRA for providing West High students with this equipment.

West’s Student Senate Presents Charity Week Proceeds to King’s Harvest

Monday, May 23, West High’s Student Senate presented Katherine Angelese, King’s Harvest representative, with a check for $15,000. Senate raised the money through various events including dodgeball, the  Teacher Lip Sync Contest, Students vs Teachers Basketball Game, and  the 31st Variety Show and Silent Auction. Students planned and facilitated the events, which involved West High faculty and student body.  We are grateful for the participation, which generated the funds for King’s Harvest.  The money will help the No-Kill Shelter on West Central Park and the King’s Harvest Shelter on Third Street.  Students are proud of their efforts and the fact that they personally helped our community.  Great job, Senate Falcons.

    iJAG Students Beautify West’s Courtyard

The spring iJAG class used part of the profit from the trivia night fundraiser to give back to their own school. They worked on the main courtyard for much of May. They cleaned up the brick design and repainted the WEST and 2016 (which used to say 2014). They planted some perennial flowers for students to enjoy by the old bell stand. They weeded out the flower beds and cleaned up the benches. Their hard work made the courtyard an even more beautiful space for all West High Students to enjoy!
