    West Falcon Theatre Celebrates Theatre in Our School Month

    West students perform a Guys and Dolls number at District celebration

    West Falcon Theatre and the Drama Club have been celebrating Theatre in Our School month. Not only did the Acting class speak with James Fairchild, a professional actor on the National Tour of Buddy Holly, but they also created videos, rehearsed for Guys and Dolls, wrote their own sketches, and built and painted sets and props.     Putnam’s Curator of History and Anthropology Presents @ West High

    Christina Kastell, Curator of History and Anthropology at the Putnam Museum, spoke to two classes (Zimmerman’s and Hosch’s)  on March  29 in celebration of March’s Women’s History Month. She presented  how women’s fashion was impacted by the role of women in society, and students viewed the Women’s History Month display in the LMC.

    West High’s Band Program Returns from Florida

    floridatrip2016On March 19th, 76 members of the West High Band Program travelled to Orlando to compete in nationally recognized OrlandoFest. Both the Festival Band and the Competition Jazz Band received the highest rating from an international judging panel. Our judges included the retired director of the top Navy band, the head director at Central Florida University, and a director associated with the London Symphony. Having received superior ratings, both bands will be ranked Nationally at the end of the 14-week competiton. In addition, 5 students received special recognition for outstanding solo performances.  Flautist Caitlin Bauer and pianist Kersten Kahley  were recognized for solos in the Festival Band. Brandon Bauer on drum set and Cody Williams on tenor saxophone as well as  Chane Eckhardt on piano were recognized for outstanding improvised solos for the jazz band. We are very proud of our students and their efforts to represent West. 

    West High Students Attend Destination Imagination

    On March 9, Davenport West teams competed in the Destination Imagination Regional Tournament at Ames Middle School.  Team Anonymous (Amia Dugan, Andrea Wesley, Angel Reighard, and Cassee Wulf) finished 2nd,  and Team Unfrozen Caveman Lawyers (Mykala Housholder, Joey Castel, Hanna Shreffler,  and Andromeda Springsteen) finished third.  Both advance to the State Competition on April 9th with a chance to go to Global Finals at the University of Tennesse at the end of May.

     

    Baking Field Trip

    Ms. Hosch’s Fundamentals of Baking  students went to Scott Community College where they got to make cookies with the chef and tour the kitchen. It was a fun and informative trip.
