West’s National Honor Society Spreads Good Cheer

National Honor Society members, NHS Advisor Ms. Staber,  Ms. Duquette, and Mr. Kintigh  wrap presents for fifty-four Handicapped Development Center residents.  To earn the money to purchase the gifts, students sell weekly donuts and host various fundraisers during the year to make sure HDC and the YMCA’s Child Watch Centers have a happy Christmas.  Presents are delivered on December 20 during a party at the HDC residential home, but the gifts are hidden so Santa can deliver them X-mas morning…and giving is better than receiving!

North & West High School Spanish Students Visit Art Institute of Chicago

Students from both North and West High’s upper-level Spanish classes recently had the opportunity to visit the Art Institute of Chicago. This field trip was partially made possible by the Davenport School Foundation’s Great Minds Program. Led by expert docents provided by the museum, students were able to view important works of art from famous Hispanic artists like Diego Velazquez, El Greco, and Diego Rivera, while learning about their historical background and significance. They also saw famous works by Andy Warhol, Matisse, and Van Gogh. Besides the museum, students visited famous landmarks like Millennium Park and Michigan Avenue.  In this photo, student pose underneath Anish Kapoor’s public sculpture “Cloud Gate,” often affectionately referred to as “The Bean.”
