Just ask the National Guard!  Bump balls were such a hit, Ms. Haas, secretary, had to try one out!

Student Senate Collects for Hunger Drive

We spent four hours at the HyVee on West Locust on Sunday, October 20…and witnessed crazy generosity from many in our community.  Come find us next Saturday and Sunday–at a HyVee in west Davenport.  Remember, you can drop off cans at West any day up to November 5.  Every  little bit helps!

    West High Teacher Awarded Honor

Jason Franzenburg was awarded the Air Force Association Teacher of the Year at the Chapter Level yesterday by Chuck McDonald. The purpose of the program is to recognize classroom teachers at the chapter level for their accomplishments and achievements in exciting K-12 students about science and math (STEM) and preparing them to use and contribute to tomorrow’s technologies. This is a unique opportunity for chapters to reward special teachers who are furthering excellence and making coming to class an adventure.  Mr. Franzenburg is definitely a special teacher who goes above and beyond.

Combustible Lemons Participate in Students Against Hunger

The West High Robotics Team participated at the Students Against Hunger event at Trinity Lutheran School on Saturday, October 12.  The Robotics team called The Combustible Lemons made meals for about one and a half hours.  The Lemons produced 3888 meals. Community service is an important part of the West program and the Lemons have a history of helping others. The entire project was able to raise over $8000 to package and send 35,000 meals. Meals they packaged will be sent both locally and abroad to Honduras, Nicaragua, and Haiti.

    Friends of West Scholarship

West alumni Robin Tuczak, along with Tony and Mary Williams, have donated seed money for a “Friends of West Scholarship” fund. The Davenport Schools Foundation is coordinating this effort and has set a goal of $20,000 so that an annual award of $1500 can be presented to a graduating WHS senior. We are asking for donations from students, parents, alumni, friends, and business partners to help us meet this goal. Make checks payable to DSF with “Friends of West” on the subject line. Any questions, contact Norm Bower at DSF at 563-336-5004 or e-mail: bowern@davenportschools.org
