    West Student Wins Honorable Mention

    Army JROTC Excels

    Congratulations to the Army JROTC program. Over spring break, the cadets excelled in the following events:

    • First Place and Best School Group in the St. Patrick’s Day parade
    • Second Place in the Building of a Rope Bridge at the St. Joseph, Missouri Physical fitness competition
    • Third Place in the Surprise Physical Fitness event at the St. Joe, MO event.
    • Seventh Place over all at the St. Joe, MO event.

    The St. Joseph, Missouri competition consisted of teams from all over the Midwest and many physical fitness events to include a 10K run with equipment, a 2-mile run, a biathlon, an Army HUMVEE truck pull, and other challenging events. Team members Roy Schindler, Isaac Anderson, Trey Anderson, Christian Marcu, Mackenzie Gibson, Jacob Heber, Tyler Buck, Brent Morales, and Mylanda Woodside achieved huge success and displayed outstanding motivation. Please congratulate them when you see them.  Great job, Army JROTC!

    Rayvonne Brown, a recent graduate of West High School, is featured on Southwestern Community College’s promotional poster for their School for Music Vocations.  Rayvonne was a big part of West’s vocal program last year; he’s clearly a big part of Southwestern’s current program.  You do us proud, Rayvonne.

    West Teacher Wins Conservation Teacher of the Year

    Congratulations to Jodi Zimmerman, who has been selected as Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District’s 2013 Conservation Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Zimmerman leads the Ecology Club at West High.  Anyone who knows her, knows she is all about conservation and recycling.
