Falcon Fever, West’s Real World Design Challenge Team

West’s Real World Design Challenge State Championships!  The Real World Design Challenge (RWDC) is an annual competition that provides high school students, grades 9-12, the opportunity to work on real world engineering challenges in a team environment. Each year, student teams are asked to address a challenge that confronts our nation’s leading industries. Students utilize professional engineering software to develop their solutions and also generate presentations that convincingly demonstrate the value of their solutions. The RWDC provides students with opportunities to apply the lessons of the classroom to the technical problems that are being faced in the workplace. The students designed a UAV to save a child who is injured and missing.  The students are pictured from left to right with the Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds: Pardeep Sani, James Larsen, Amber Sawvell, Kim Reynolds, Tuyen Nguyen, Carina Grady, and Eli Shellabarger. Coaches were Jason Franzenburg and Greg Smith. More information

West Teacher Will Shave Head to Fight Cancer

West High teacher Michelle Martins is having her head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. Please support her with a donation to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I’m really asking you to support these kids.

Two years ago, when I participated in this event, it was a last minute decision for me to do so. I challenged my friends to help me raise $500 in less than 24 hours. You all met that challenge. Now I’m giving you two months’ notice, and I wish to challenge you again. If I raise $2,000 before the event, I will shave my head
