After many successful fundraising activities, National Honor Society members, under the direction of Ms. Staber and Ms. Stevens, wrapped presents purchased with fundraising proceeds, augmented by kind donations, for the YMCA and the Handicapped Development Center. Students and teachers donated blood on December 13, 2012. Thanks to the Science Club for their efforts in maintaining the area’s blood supply.

Davenport West’s Public Forum Debate Team of Noah Kirschbaum and Greg Windeknecht got FIRST place in the Dowling Catholic Paradigm, one of the biggest public forum tournaments in the country. Teams fly in from many states to compete in this tournament, and this year, nearly 100 debate teams competed. Noah and Greg also earned a bid to the biggest and most important debate tournament—the Tournament of Champions (TOC), a tournament for the best of the best. Davenport West’s debate team is top notch in Iowa and is making a name for itself around the country. When they announced the winners from the quarterfinals debate, leaving only 4 teams for semi-finals, Noah and Greg were already the top Iowa team. The other 3 were from South Dakota, Minnesota, and Florida. In the final debate, Noah and Greg beat Florida’s Lake Highland Preparatory, a private school. Congratulations to Noah, Greg, and Ms.
