Lifeskills

Lifeskills are the attitudes of successful citizens. The bold-type lifeskills are taught as a part of the district curriculum. Use this as a checklist to think about your children, their strengths, and areas that might need improvement.

Each day starts, after the pledge to the flag, with this promise:

"Today, I will try to do my best. I will be honest and trustworthy. I will be an

active listener. I will be kind and help others. I am a special member of this class."

September

  • Personal best- doing something to the best of your ability
  • No put-downs- no unkind or untrue words to others
  • Punctuality & Promptness - on time, prompt

October

  • Caring- to feel concern for others
  • Respectfulness- to have a high opinion of; to be polite
  • Dependability- reliable, trustworthy
  • Obedience- respecting or yielding to authority
  • Self-Control- controlling one’s emotions or actions
  • Politeness- good manners

November

  • Teamwork- to work together for a common goal
  • Truthfulness- being honest and sincere
  • Honesty- fair; trustworthy
  • Thankfulness- feeling or expressing gratitude; grateful
  • Kindness- willing to help; friendly

December

  • Responsibility- to be accountable for
  • Generosity- willing to give and share; unselfish

January

  • Effort- to try your hardest
  • Patience- to wait calmly; tolerant
  • Cooperation- working together for a common purpose
  • Resourcefulness- able to deal skillfully with difficulties
  • Tolerance: acceptance of individual differences

February

  • Initiative- to do something because it needs to be done
  • Patriotism- respectful allegiance to one’s country
  • Loyalty- faithful; true to a promise

March

  • Perseverance- to stay with something until it is complete
  • Courage- to meet a challenge without giving in to fear
  • Self-reliance- Relying on your own abilities, efforts or judgements

April

  • Common sense- to use good judgement
  • Cleanliness- free from dirt; neat and tidy
  • Self-discipline- control of your actions, emotions or behavior in order to improve yourself
  • Independence- reliance on yourself and your own efforts
  • Neatness- orderliness; neatly arranged

May

  • Sportsmanship- the ability to win or lose with respect for self and others
  • Courtesy- polite behavior toward others
  • Fairness- to be honest and just

June

  • Confidence- trust in yourself
