Standards Based Assessment and Reporting
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Davenport Junior Highs have moved to Standards Based Assessment and Reporting. Standards-based assessment and reporting (SBAR) is a system in which a student’s individual learning is the primary goal. It is a method for teachers to measure student knowledge based on state or national content standards. Although every system needs a grading component, SBAR encompasses an entire learning process enabling students to take chances, re-learn material, and demonstrate their understanding of the content. I am attaching two letters: 1) One from Corri Guy, our Curriculum Director, explaining SBAR, and 2) a letter with dates from me. I support SBAR because it provides the student with multiple opportunities to learn the material. The new learning curve this year is the numerical grading practice that communicates to YOU as a parent and to the STUDENT the grade the student has earned. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with your questions. Mike Garnica |
