Greetings Davenport Community Schools Parents!
The Davenport Community School District believes the local community services are instrumental in serving the needs of our families. Families, teachers and community can now access approved materials online as well as pick up a flyer in the school common areas. Visit our Davenport School web page and click the Virtual Backpack Icon to find information about community partner events. Feel free to print off a copy from the Virtual Backpack or visit the common area of your students school to pick up a provided copy from the community partner.
Teachers will send home assignments and materials as normal, so be sure to continue to check your child’s backpack frequently for school and classroom news and homework/grading.
In August we messaged this exciting news and we would like to share it again as we transition our process for external community resources. As a part of the larger Davenport community, the Davenport Community School District has permitted the distribution of materials from our non-profit community partners that inform our students and their families of programs/activities that are focused on improving the health, education, or welfare of our students.
Effective with the 2014-2015 school year, the Davenport Community Schools has launched a new approach to make this information available to our families. Our Virtual Backpack enables us to offer community and agency information electronically through our district website. We have made this change based on feedback we’ve received from parents through surveys and focus groups regarding the large amount of paper that goes home with their students. Community partners are still able to provide 100 copies for the schools’ Common areas or Parent Resource Center for your convenience.
Information from community organizations will be updated regularly on our Virtual Backpack site. The postings will be arranged in various categories to help parents find information that is of specific interest to their student.
Teachers will continue to send assignments and materials home in student backpacks, particularly at the elementary school level. Parents will want to continue checking their student’s backpack frequently for school information.
Thank you and have a great year!
