Volunteers
Like many non-profit organizations, the Davenport Community Schools relies on
the support of volunteers to fulfill our mission to serve the youth of our
community. Nowhere else in the Quad Cities do so many people come together on a
daily basis to serve a common good. This site is designed to share information
on how to get more involved. A common saying is that “ . . . it takes a village
to raise a child.” Providing a successful education to the youth of our
community does require the involvement and support of many groups. You can take
part in providing a quality learning experience by volunteering at our schools
in a number of ways: serving as a member of the PTA/PTO, or parent booster club
at your student’s school, volunteering to help during your school’s special
events and activities, giving time as a mentor or tutor in the classroom, or
taking part in such special district-wide programs as the First Class/First Day
school supply drive or Coats for Kids program or the Local School Improvement
Advisory Committee. You can also contact the principal or classroom teachers at
your school to see what special needs they may have for volunteers. Research
shows that involved parents and an involved community support student
achievement.
