Classroom Bio: 

Welcome to Mrs. Walters Room S-6 web page.  We currently have 22 students in our kindergarten learning community.  We have 11 boys and 11 girls.  Students go to the gym in the morning and I meet them in the gym at 8:00.  On Tuesdays and Fridays we have super start in the gym at 8:00 and are in the gym until around 8:10.  Students are not counted tardy until 8:15.  The weather is getting colder.  Please dress your child to play outside.

Curriculum/Strategies:

Reading:  We are working on these skills:  Children that can identify there upper and lower case alphabet letters are focusing on learning all of the letter sounds.  There are 31 letter sounds, which include the long and the short vowel sounds.  We encourage the children to point to each word when reading, try hard to sound out words that they do not know, (paying close attention to what letter a word begins with), and to look at the picture on the page for clues that help to comprehend the sentence.  We have learned the words:  I,  can,  we, the,  like, a , see, go.  Please continue to practice, reading, writing, and spelling these words using the blue flashcards that have been sent home.

Math:  We continue to work with math manipulatives to practice the skills of counting, making sets, patterning, and sorting.  We use our calendar to practice counting, number recognition, number  word recognition, weather graphing, and understanding the 7 days of the week.  Please work on naming 3-D shapes and writing the numbers 0-10.

Science:  We are currently studying trees and weather.  We study the parts of the tree and the way the trees change with each season.  We graph the weather every day and talk about how to dress appropriately for the weather.

Friday, October 30:  Halloween activities 9-10:45.  10:45  Parade.
Wednesday, November 25-Friday,  November 27:  Thanksgiving break.
