Message from the Art Room:

Welcome Back! As many of you already know, I am Mrs. Hunter and teach art here at Truman. We operate on a Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 Schedule, so every three days your students will have art. I am very excited to start the 2009-2010 school year with all of you!

Art Curriculum:

The first day of art, each student created a Portfolio Folder to use as storage for art projects they will create this year. At the end of the year, students will bring home their collection of artwork in their portfolio folders to share with their families. Each grade level is now working on Unit 1 of their grade level art curriculum.

·    Kindergartener students are learning about art and exploring the use of a variety of art materials.

·    First grade students are learning about portraits and self portraits. They are creating a self portrait of themselves.

·    Second grade students are studying neighborhood relationships. They are creating a painting of their neighborhood with people working and playing together.

·    Third grade students are learning about community events. They are creating a painting of a community event that they have attended.

·    Fourth grade students are learning how to express their identity in a self-portrait. We are learning all about proportions and how to draw facial features.

·    Fifth grade students are learning about natural and constructed environments. The performance task for this unit is to create an image of a realistic environment that expresses surreal or fantasy like ideas.
