Stepping Stones is being showcased at the Iowa Afterschool Alliance’s conference, “Impact After School,” sponsored by the Iowa Afterschool Alliance and the Iowa Department of Education. Program leaders Shaney Ford and DeMetria Isabel traveled to Des Moines to lead a session on community collaboration in after school and summer programming. The conference features best practices and exemplary programs from across the state.

Leaders of the Davenport Community Schools, City of Davenport and ISU Extension and Outreach visited the Monroe Elementary Stepping Stones program on Tuesday. Mayor Bill Gluba, Alderman Nate Brown, Monroe Principal T.J. Schneckloth, Superintendent Art Tate, ISU Extension Director Becky Bray, school board member Bill Sherwood, and a host of other Davenport Community Schools staff members toured the program and met in a planning session for the collaboration. Begun in 1999 the partnership has grown to serve every public elementary school in Davenport, Blue Grass and Buffalo with low or no cost after school and summer enrichment programming.
