| Attendance
Attendance will be taken daily. Any students late for 1st hour need to report to the office to receive a late slip. These students will be required to sit at the silent lunch table. Iowa law requires good attendance. Research indicates that good attendance. Research indicates that good attendance contributes to success. Our goal for every student associated with F.L.Smart is perfect attendance (no days absent). However, some absences are unavoidable. It is the stole responsibility of the student's parent or legal guardian to notify the school of an absence. PROCEDURE FOR REPORTING ABSENCES When a student is absent from school, a parent or legal guardian is required to call the attendance secretary at 323-1837 between hours of 7:00am and 9:30am each day the student is not in attendance. If telephone contact has not been made during an absence, a note signed by a parent or legal guardian stating the reason for absence and the date(s) of absence is necessary. This note must be presented to the absence secretary when being admitted to school. If no contact or note is received, the student will be considered truant and consequences will begin. Tardiness to school All student arriving late to school (after the 9:00am
tardy bell) will be considered tardy. Contact from a parent or guardian
is required if a student is to be excused from a tardy to school.
Students will not be admitted to their first hour class without a slip
from the attendance office secretary after an absence or a tardy that is

Minutes or more. The following consequences will occur as a result
of being tardy:
Truancy and class cutting Truancy is being absent from class or school, leaving
an assigned area or wondering halls without an approved excuse or pass.
Such behavior will result in serious consequences:
