School Board Election Information
The next School Board Election will take place Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Director’s Mayfield, Snyder and Clewell’s term will be expiring during this election cycle so there will be three open positions.
Overview: The school board elections in Iowa are held in odd-numbered years. A candidate must be an eligible elector in the school district at the time of the election. An eligible elector meets all the requirements to register to vote but does not have to be registered to vote:
An eligible elector must:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a resident of Iowa, and
- Be at least 18 years old.
An eligible elector may not:
- Be a convicted felon (unless voting rights have been restored by the President or Governor).
- Be currently judged incompetent to vote by a court, and
- Claim the right to vote in any other place..
Nomination Papers: Each candidate must file an affidavit of candidacy and nomination of petitions with the school board secretary. The affidavit of candidacy and nomination papers must be filed together or they we be rejected. (This is in Iowa Code)
First Day: Monday, July 10, 2017- Nomination papers cannot be submitted before this date.
Last Day: Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 5:00PM
Interested individuals can click on the link below for all the information needed in order to submit papers to run for this very important elected position.
You will need to complete the Affidavit of Candidacy/Nomination Petition and submit by August 3, 2017 at 5:00PM to Mary Correthers, Board Secretary at the Achievement Service Center, 1606 Brady Street, Davenport. The signature requirement for Davenport School Board is 50 signatures.
Hard copies of The Candidate Guide and Affidavit of Candidacy papers will also be available at the Achievement Service Center starting Monday, July 10, 2017.
