    Week of June 5th, 2020

Today was the last official day of school! Although it didn’t end as planned, we had a GREAT year Wildcats! The achievements and accomplishments this year were amazing!  CONGRATULATIONS seniors! You have been an amazing group of young adults! It has been our pleasure getting to know you over the last 4 years.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Davenport Schools have reduced the graduation requirements for the class of 2020 to 20 credits.  We are committed to finding a way to celebrate graduation in person, but the ceremony planned for June 7 has been postponed. The district is exploring a variety of options, including a live ceremony on July 19.

A virtual ceremony will be held on June 6–this is in addition to the ceremony planned on July 19; We will monitor Covid 19 progress and follow all state and local guidelines as decisions are being made. We believe the graduation ceremony is extremely important and will do everything we can to honor our seniors with a celebration that is fitting for their accomplishments.

    Virtual Graduation

Our Virtual Graduation Ceremony will be televised by KWQC on Saturday, June 6th! 1:00 PM. There is nothing that students or parents need to do at this time for the production.

    Locker Clean Out

Email chelfj@davenportschools.com if you missed the days and we will get you in next week.

Please contact Mrs. Christian at christiane@davenportschools.org

Text Book and Chrome Book Collection

We will not be collecting any items at this time, but will again look at a June date or later depending on health dept. guidelines

    Term 4 Learning

The DCSD is exploring how we will return to learning in the fall, knowing that we need time to have our high school students recoup learning that was voluntary during our 4th quarter.  The district is committed to ensuring that our students are on pace with age-level  peers across the state by the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year.   The board is looking at a variety of possible models that will allow our students to regain the credits that were lost as a result of the pandemic.  Information will be passed along as it becomes available.

Seniors Celebration (formerly known as Parade/Picnic)

We are finalizing details on the celebration.  We have a parade around and through North High School in caps and gowns leading to North High soccer field for food and activities.  A photograph will be available for senior photos caps and gowns.  Staff will be preparing food, and many activities for the Wildcat seniors.  The event will have raffles and contests for the seniors sending the students off in style!  Parents, staff and other students  will be able to honk out or clap out the seniors on the way to the soccer field.

This event is on hold until the State, Health Department and District give us the go-ahead based on current social distancing measures.

    Summer Athletics

The Governor of the State of Iowa, the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have granted approval for baseball and softball to hold abbreviated seasons.  We are excited, but understand that it is necessary to proceed with caution and pay very close attention to details.

Each program will be following guidelines issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health, Scott County Health Department as well as the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa High School Girls Union.  As a result, practices and games will look differently than they have in the past.  More guidance will be made available about the changes as we get closer to competitions.

The Davenport Community School District is requiring each participant to complete a consent form. A printable copy can be found at: tiny.cc/NHSConsent. Please make sure that this form is filled out and returned at tryouts.

Both the baseball and softball teams have published information for tryouts.  These materials provide all the information necessary to properly prepare for those workouts on Monday, June 1st, 2020 and can be found on the North website at this link.
