Holiday Music Program!
By Miss Hoffman
Fa la la la la, la la la la!  The music room has been filled with the sounds of the coming holidays!  (Yes, the holiday season begins early for music teachers!)  In October, the 2nd and 3rd graders began learning the songs that they will performMr. Gibbs. for their holiday music program entitled “The Very Best Time of the Year”.  This will take place on Tuesday, December 12th at 6:00pm for parents, family and friends. Prior to the program, families are invited to the Monroe Cafeteria for reasonably priced Pizza slices and soda. The cafeteria will open at  5:00 for dinner. The next day, December 13th, they will perform the music program again for the rest of the students and teachers at 9:30am.  In addition to reviewing some oldies but goodies like “Jingle Bells” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, they have learned several songs that they’ve never before known such as “TheThis is a holiday tree. Holiday Rock” and “North Pole, North Pole”, a parody song on the well-known “ New York , New York ”.  They are doing a phenomenal job so far and are becoming more eager and excited with each week that passes.
This week auditions for speaking roles were held during music class.  Results of these auditions should be posted by the end of this week.  Please inquire whether or not your child auditioned and/or received a speaking part.  If he or she did receive a part, it is important that you help them read through it, develop some expression, and memorize it over the coming weeks.  December will be here before we know it!  I will have rehearsals in December for those with speaking parts, but the more work that is done now, the less we have to squeeze in later!  Thank you for your support.
Both of these performances are mandatory for all 2nd and 3rd graders.  If there is a known conflict ahead of time, it is absolutely essential that a note be sent to me – Miss Hoffman – as soon as possible with the reason why the student will not be in attendance.  This will be considered an excused absence, and it will not affect their music grade.  Any absences for which I am not notified prior to the program will be considered un-excused, which will affect the student’s grade.  Thanks for your cooperation, and I look forward to seeing you there to celebrate the holiday season with Monroe !
