Center
The second graders
enjoyed a study trip to the
Wapsi
Environmental
Center
on Friday 1/26/07.
As part of the science curriculum, students learned about birds of prey
and their habitats and saw a real live owl and perigee falcon.
The Naturalists also explained about reptiles and amphibians. We
saw turtles, salamanders and snakes that are found in
Iowa
forests and waterways. The students also learned about animal adaptations
and how they survive in the winter. The most fun activity was getting a
chance to snowshoe. We saw animal furs and touched the pelts. The students
walked on snow using “beavertail” snowshoes that look like tennis
rackets. They found out that it isn’t as easy as it looks, but was lots
of fun!
