Monroe
Fall Academy 2006
Over 100
students participated in the
Fall
Academy
at
Monroe
during the first week of intercession break. The students were able to do
MANY fun things including visiting an Apple Orchard and a Pumpkin Patch.
In art, Mr. Houk had the 3rd – 5th grade students
make plaster masks. The students really enjoyed the project. Here is what
a few students had to say about the mask assignment:
I freaked out because when I got it put over my eyes I knew I
couldn't take it off for a long time.
I wouldn't be able to open my eyes until it dried.
It felt like I was in the hospital.
I just helped some people in our class instead.

It felt weird! When me
and Taylor were laying still it was weird.
It got stuck in your hair when you got it pulled off.
You had to pull it out of your hair.
It was so hard to take off. -
Victoria
In art we had face masks. It
felt comfortable at first but when you take it off it hurt badly!
It sticks to your face in little pieces. - Rachel
At art today Mr. Houk put a mask on me.
I had to sit on a table for 10 minutes.
When I got up I was covered in white powder.
It was hard to get it off. - Dion
It felt funny and a little warm.
It hurt a little when she was taking it off of me.
When she took it off it got all in my face.
The mask was put on a shelf and I had to put my name and piece of
tape in front of it so they won't get mixed up.
We put vaseline all over our faces too! - Ta'Teeon
It felt funny when you put the oil on your face.
It smelled like gas. The
powder was stuck to your face and it hurt when you took it off.
It got all over your clothes so I had to clean myself up.
- Dakota
When I was in art we were making a mask.
It is cool because we got to lay down and sleep when the grown-up
put on the mask. Mrs. Pekios
was doing my face when we had to lay there for 10 minutes.
It was fun because you got to sleep.
We were never allowed to sleep in school before!
I wish we could have spent more time on that project but we
couldn't because we had to do reading and math too.
It was really, really fun!! -
Taylor
I got a face mask. It
hurt when they took it off. It
felt like I was going to die! -
Mitchell
Today we went to art and we made face masks.
We had to get some stuff on our faces.
Then the teachers put some cut up bandages on our faces.
Mrs. Pekios forgot to not cover my nostrils but I could breathe.
We had to wait for 10 minutes before we could take them off. -
