Monroe ’s Got the Blues...
…Generations of Blues that is!  On Thursday, February 1st, Monroe 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students had the opportunity to participate in Generations of Blues, a performing group of men who sang and played blues music.  Don KinseyHal ReedThey told stories of their experiences with the blues and demonstrated different styles of blues music.  They also gave a little history on how the blues evolved through the years.
The students heard how the blues changed once the electric guitar came along.  They also learned that the beat of the blues is very distinct, and it continues to influence the music that we hear on the radio today.
Three students had the opportunity to sing a “holler” song with the performers, and another student and Miss Hoffman sang Rockin’ Robin in the blues style at the end of the presentation.
It was a great way to liven us up on a cold winter day and served as a great kickoff to Black History Month.
