ITBS Results Are In
Monroe students and teachers work hard all year to improve academically. We assess constantly to make appropriate instructional choices. One of the many assessment tools we utilize is the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. This is the instrument Iowa chooses to report to the federal government for NCLB so it’s really important to us!

Family Math Night

Monroe families participated in a Family Math night on Thursday, November 15th. Families were treated to a hot dog dinner and then learned to play several games from around the world. Families talked about strategy, discovered numerical and visual patterns, used mental math, and explored geometry while having a great time. At the end of the night each family took home a math game to continue to enjoy in the future. Thanks to Ms. Ceurvorst and the Monroe Dad's Club for organizing this fun event!

Dare Graduation

The fifth graders at Monroe graduated from the DARE (Drug Awareness and Resistance Education) program on Tuesday, November 13th.

Eat At Wendy's!
Monroe and Wendy’s have formed a partnership that will be very Mmm...Frosties!profitable for us! Every Tuesday from 5:00 PM -8:00 PM, Wendy’s will give us a full 10% of all sales from their West Locust Store to use for materials and programs that help Monroe’s kids. This is incredibly generous and all we need to do is to eat at Wendy’s on Tuesday nights!

RIF Comes to Monroe
RIF (Reading is Fundamental) was held at Monroe November 19-20. Each child received a book to add to their home libraries. Media Specialist, Kim Head, organized the event. Our RIF program gained national recognition this past June. Mrs. Head was invited to Washington, DC. to receive an award on behalf of Monroe Elementary.
