Program Goal: Provide nutritious, appetizing meals for students at a reasonable price in a clean environment.

The Child Nutrition Program offers nutritious breakfasts and lunches at every school building. Proper nutrition is fundamental for the success of academic programs. Our meals meet the USDA Nutrition Standards, which require the following: Age-appropriate calorie limits, Daily servings of both vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving, but may take up to 3-4 servings), A wide variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes, Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free), Whole grains, Less sodium.

School meals support nationwide goals to eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains daily. Now is a great time for students to choose school lunch!

    Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program

Schools offering the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program: Fillmore, Garfield, Truman, Hayes, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Washington.

    Meal Prices

School meals are economical, often costing less than what you spend to prepare meals at home.  The Food & Nutrition Services Department strives to keep the meal prices low while maintaining quality and nutritional standards.  The larger portions and more variety increase the cost of meals to older students.

Effective 7/1/2019 Preschool Elementary Intermediate High School Reduced Adult
    Breakfast $1.50 $1.50 $1.70 $1.70 $.30 $2.25
    Lunch $2.60 $2.60 $2.60 $3.00 $.40 $4.00

Although meals and milk can be purchased daily, prepayment for 5, 10 or 20 days is encouraged.  Students are less likely to forget money or run out and it is more convenient for parents.  Charging/credit meals are not allowed for students in grades 7-12.  Cashiers will verbally remind the students when the account is low.

Unflavored milk is available in 1% fat and fat-free (skim). Fat-free chocolate milk is offered daily. Strawberry milk is offered on an occasional basis. The meal price includes 1-8 oz. carton of milk. Additional cartons of milk may be purchased for $.55 per carton. This includes the purchase of milk to accompany meals brought from home.

Davenport Community Schools has an online payment system. Click here for access:

My School Bucks Online Payment System

Low Balance Notice / Anti- Shaming

Elementary School Students:  All meal purchases are to be paid at time of service.  Students may pay by cash or check during meal service but are encouraged to prepay into student accounts.  For convenience, the district offers an online payment system.  Account balance and daily purchases may be monitored through the online system.   Elementary students who do not have sufficient funds shall be allowed to charge meals up to $10.00. Charging of a la carte items such as milk is not allowed.  When an account reaches this limit, a student shall not be allowed to charge further until the outstanding account balance is paid. Students who do not have sufficient funds and who have reached the maximum charge limit will be allowed to select milk and up to 1 serving of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables.  The school principal will be informed of continuing fund insufficiency to address family needs.

All students will be allowed to receive a lunch (unless communicated to the district in writing by a parent or guardian) and must repay the cost of the lunches. Families will be contacted regarding the need for funds and meal repayment. If meals are not repaid promptly with funds restored to the student’s account, the student will be charged for the meal. The family will be encouraged to complete an application for meal benefits and the student referred to the school office for follow-up.

If your family is experiencing financial difficulty, please contact the cafeteria manager or the Food & Nutrition Office for assistance. Outstanding meal charges at year-end will be applied to the student school fee statement and will carry over until paid in full.

Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications

Great news! Students enrolled in the following CEP schools will be able to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at no charge each day when school is in session of the 2020-2021 school year.

Buchanan Elementary, Children Village West, Davenport Learning Center (Keystone Academy), Fillmore Elementary, Garfield Elementary, Hayes Elementary, Children Village Hoover, Jackson Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Madison Elementary, Mid City High, Monroe Elementary, Smart Intermediate, Truman Elementary, Washington Elementary, Williams Intermediate, Wilson Elementary, Wood Intermediate

No further action is required. There will be a charge if your student takes an extra serving or wishes to purchase a milk to accompany a meal from home.

Parents of students enrolled in schools not listed above may need to complete a meal application listing all family members to apply for benefits. If any family member receives food assistance or FIP, your students may already be approved for free meals. Watch for a letter from Davenport Community Schools in late July notifying you that your student(s) have already been approved based on your participation in these federal/state assistance programs. If you receive this notification letter, no further action is required.

If a meal application is necessary, it may now be completed online at https://www.myschoolapps.com/ . Families will receive a letter confirming meal benefit status after the application is processed.  Cash payment for meals is expected until the confirmation letter is issued (See  My School Bucks Online Payment System for online deposits to your child’s meal account).

Free or reduced price meals cannot be provided without prior approval. You may apply at any time during the school year if your household size goes up, income goes down, or if you start getting Food Assistance, FIP, or other benefits. If you lose your job, your children may be able to get free or reduced price meals. The reduced price breakfast is $.30 and the reduced price lunch is $.40 for all grade levels.

Requests for Meal Modifications / Special Diets

If your child has dietary restrictions such as an allergy to certain foods, please fill out a Diet Modification Request Form and submit it to your school’s office/nurse. You will need to obtain a signed, physician’s order for dietary accommodations if your child has a life threatening allergy or medical condition requiring special dietary consideration. A Registered Dietitian will review the diet modification request to determine if dietary modifications will be accommodated.
