Scott County Schools Look To Extend
Local Option Sales And Services Tax
Funding from the county-wide Local Option Sales and
Services Tax (LOSST) allows the Davenport Community
Schools and other public school districts in the
county to effectively plan needed capital
improvements to our schools – enabling us to provide
a safe and supportive environment for the thousands
of students we serve every day.
The LOSST is a one-cent sales tax is a
voter-approved funding source which can help to pay
for new construction, significant capital
improvements, technology upgrades, and
transportation costs.
A ‘frequently
asked questions’ document has been developed to
provide additional details and a
flyer
featuring the actual ballot language is also
available. The current LOSST was initially approved
by the voters of Scott County in 1999. The ballot
for March 4th is for a ten-year extension of this
measure . . . it is NOT a new tax.
A list
of past projects paid for with LOSST funding
since its initial approval is included on this
website, as is a
list of projected projects for the next funding
period. In that funds raised through the LOSST are
restricted in how they can be spent, each district
in the county has also developed a
Revenue Purpose Statement which outlines the
type of projects which could be funded with LOSST
dollars.
The measure will be on the ballot for all voters in
Scott County on March 4, 2008. Normal polling
locations and times will apply. The Davenport
Community Schools are hosting a number of upcoming
public sessions for families and community members
to learn more about the LOSST extension:
