By the end of their year, there are certain skills that first grade students should be able to demonstrate. Called the standards (what they need to know) and benchmarks (how they will show that they know it) are displayed below. The document is extensive in all the areas of learning.

The first grade uses the Macmillan-McGraw Hill Treasures as the reading series, and the math program is the Wright Groups Growing with Mathematics. Some themes that will be explored this year include:

In addition, the children participate in a program called Second Step, an anti-bullying program designed to teach children skills of empathy, impulse control, anger management and problem solving. For more information on Second Step, click here.
A unique aspect of Lincoln is the in depth study of artists and different musical genres. The first grade students are studying the works of these artists (references linked to Artcyclopedia.com)
