Kimberly Center's gym was turned into a room full of wonderful jazz
music. Kimberly Center welcomed jazz musician David Sanchez. Along
with David came
Henry,
his drummer. Students and staff together had a wonderful time
listening to David Sanchez play the Jazz saxophone. During the
performance staff and students got the chance to ask any questions
that they may have. Mr. Wessel the P.E. teacher asked “How much
does a
good
saxophone cost?” David Sanchez’s response was "Between 3
and 5 thousand dollars."
During
the performance we learned that Mr. Sanchez was born in
Guaynabo
,
Puerto Rico
. Sanchez began playing percussion and drums at age 8. Four years
later he began playing the saxophone. David Sanchez’s most recent
recording earned him his fourth Grammy. He also won a Latino Grammy
after winning “Best Instrumental Album” of 2005. Staff and
students who had the chance to experience this performance will
remember the it for many years to come.
