Panthers End Season With Perfect Record
Kimberly Center 73, Cedar Rapids Metro 51

The Kimberly Center Panther basketball team finished their first season with a perfect 4-0 record in Alternative High School round-ball play. The Panthers traveled to the frozen tundra of Cedar Rapids on a frightfully frigid February night to play Chuck Tonelli’s mighty Metro squadron. Metro came into the game well prepared after a strong showing against Kimberly Center in their first meeting last December.
Jim Wessel’s proud Panther’s took an early lead that was never lost as a result of hard, physical play by Philip Kirk, Harold Edwards and DJ Lang. Metro fought an admirable battle with their very skilled warriors, but Jake Owen, Brandon Riddick and Najee West held them in check as a result of Coach Foster’s masterful defensive architecture.
Despite fouls on both sides of the court, each team demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship through-out. The second half saw an offensive surge on the part of Metro with them coming within 14 points late in the 4th quarter, but unselfish ball handling and crisp passing by the Panthers maintained their lead until the end. Michael Cousey and Michael Roberts were exceptional in their ability to keep the ball moving on the floor while Antonio Perkins and Erin Rice led the way in scoring.
The Panther's chief videographer Steven (see "Student of the Week" for 2/15/08) wants to remind everyone that Panther Basketball replays air every Saturday at 1:00 PM on Mediacom channel 19. Be sure to tune-in!
