Panthers
Demonstrate Sportsmanship in Exhibition Outing
The Kimberly Center
Panther basketball team led by enigmatic Coach Jim Wessel and his stoic
sidekick Steve Foster hosted the Moline Boy’s Club for a high octane
exhibition match-up at Davenport’s Sudlow Tiger Arena. The path leading
up to the game was riddled with blizzards, cancellations and forfeits but
the Moline squad readily accepted the last minute invitation. Moline put
on their game faces, and made the jaunt over the I-74 bridge to meet the
undefeated Panther powerhouse.
The Moline team was very
capable, but shallow on the bench so coach John Banks graciously took the
court to compete against the proud Panthers. It was a great honor for the
Panthers to play with the 6’7" Banks on the floor. Banks was a Rock
Island High School standout who went on to play in college and in the
Continental Basketball Association!
Banks took the Kimberly
Center students to school on the court while modeling incredible
athleticism, skill and sportsmanship.
After four quarters of
play, the Panthers prevailed on the scoreboard, but both teams were
winners as they shared a common passion for the game of basketball. This
was a positive experience for all involved. Wessel, Foster and Moline
Coach Banks were equally proud of all the student athletes.
