January night, the prodigious Kimberly Center Panther basketball team made a
pilgrimage to
The first half
saw the Panthers take an immediate lead that they would sustain throughout
the game. Michael Roberts, Antonio Perkins, Brandon Riddick and Jake Owen led
the initial charge with energetic play. Kameron Hester and Michael Cosey were
key components in the cause contributing consistent performances.
After
half-time, power players Phillip Kirk, Cedric Moore and Harold Edwards
pressured compass into numerous turnovers. Michael “Pay-Per-View”
LaGrange saw ample playing time and put up several good shots. Tony Fernandez
showed impressive athleticism as he ran the court and commanded the lane with
super seniors Curtis Greer and Wes Long dominating the floor. Long was
courageous in his farewell game as his graduation nears. DJ Lang was a
positive force with his true panther-like speed. KeyKey Buchanan made her
Panther debut with aggressive play and good ball handling.
In the end, the
Panthers outlasted Compass with a final score of 70-23 giving the team a 2-0
record. The team demonstrated commendable sportsmanship led by Brandon
Riddick, Michael Roberts and Antonio Perkins. Many thanks to the volunteers
that made this game possible. Steven Barnes ran the video camera and led the
commentary with Michael LaGrange. Judy Porter and Ila Mishra were
scorekeepers. Kristin Flynn stepped-up to referee the game. Nurse Schadel was
on hand to handle injuries. Principal Bosco, Bill Sherwood and Jodi
Woodrich-Bunn managed the student fans in attendance and provided
