Kimberly Center's NEW Weight Room!
The Kimberly Center was very fortunate to obtain contributions from The Kiwanis Club and The Optimist Club to purchase professional quality weight equipment for the school's PE department. The generous donations were used to purchase 11 high quality weight machines, 5 commercial grade cardiovascular machines in addition to many other miscellaneous pieces of equipment needed to complete the school's weight room.
The project was the brainchild of School Psychologist Terry Canright who had a vision many years ago of Kimberly Center's students being able to work-out and reap the benefits of weight-training and cardiovascular exercise. Without Mr. Canright's hard work and foresight, this wouldn't have been possible.
"This is a BIG day for Kimberly Center", Mr. Canright said as he personally moved the last piece of equipment into place.

Jim Wessel, the school's PE teacher and intramural coach has many ideas as to how to get the new program up and running. With his 20 years of experience coaching varsity basketball, he will lead the way instructing students on fitness theory and practice focusing on proper technique and nutrition.
Bill Sherwood, chairman of Kimberly Center's Wellness Committee will lead the charge to get staff involved in fitness through the use of the equipment.
The equipment came from DePaepe's World Class Fitness Center in Davenport. Owner Gary DePaepe was instrumental in helping the Kimberly Center realize it's goal by donating half of the machines Kimberly Center now has. Mr. DePaepe expressed a desire to help the community by providing the Alternative High School a means to alternative exercise!
A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for mid November where The Kiwanis Club, The Optimist Club, Gary DePaepe and Terry Canright will be honored as the weight room is dedicated and officially opened for students to fully benefit. Local media will also be present.
Principal Cathy Bosco extends a big thanks to the donors for their contributions as well as thanks to the staff who made this possible!
